Snapchat attempts to regain relevancy with the bold move of copying everyone else and launching its own AI chatbot
The AI bandwagon is getting awfully full lately.
...and now here comes SnapChat!
The company most thought had long faded into irrelevancy when TikTok burst onto the scene.
In this latest move towards the AI craze, Snapchat has introduced a new chatbot called "My AI" that uses the latest version of OpenAI's GPT technology, customized explicitly for Snapchat users.
Currently, My AI is only available as an experimental feature for Snapchat's $ 3.99-a-month subscription service, Snapchat+.
This chatbot is designed to make your conversations with friends and family more fun and engaging.
With its advanced natural language processing, it will understand what you say and respond with witty responses.
Positioned at the top of the Chat tab, My AI is capable of answering trivia questions and even writing haikus.
The company claims My AI was developed with a unique voice and personality that aligns with the company's core values of friendship, learning, and fun.
Additionally, the chatbot has been trained to comply with the platform's safety and trust guidelines.
“My AI can recommend birthday gift ideas for your BFF, plan a hiking trip for a long weekend, suggest a recipe for dinner, or even write a haiku about cheese for your cheddar-obsessed pal,” the company wrote in a blog post.
The blog post also claims that users can “Make My AI your own by giving it a name and customizing the wallpaper for your Chat.”
Snapchat confesses though that "as with all AI-powered chatbots," My AI can be tricked into saying just about anything.
They likely included this disclaimer alluding to the disaster created by Bing after it recently updated it's Chatbot with OpenAI's GPT-4 model.
Snapchat seems to be proactive in addressing potential issues with its chatbot, acknowledging that "My AI" has "several limitations."
The company even went as far as apologizing in advance to users of the new feature.
The company has also cautioned users against disclosing any confidential information to the chatbot or relying on it for advice.
SnapChat believes that as time progresses, AI has the potential to enrich their app's overall experience and promote stronger connections among users.
Let's see if this move will help the SNAP stock price from the nosedive it has been on since the end of 2021... I doubt it.
